How to Meditate even if You’re Skeptical and Lazy

My morning meditation

Healing is about being curious about what can make you feel better. Healing stacking is about using different healing modalities (from vegan food, herbs, sun, yoga, acupuncture, to western medicine) that will speed up your healing.

On the very top of my healing stacking is meditation.

I use meditation to reduce anxiety, to center and ground myself, and to sharpen my intuition. I try to do it every day. The duration may vary as I can feel if it’s enough. My meditation can be as short as 5 minutes or 45 minutes if I feel that I need it.

See it as brushing your teeth, you do it because you want to keep your teeth clean and not invite any gross bacteria to cause pain in the future. That’s what you need to use meditation for: a foundation of practice to maintain your sanity and clarity.

Meditation to me is about sitting in silence and becoming aware of the space in between the silence.

If that’s too out there and vague, I can also offer you a practical way to do it.

First of all, find a private space where you can feel safe to sit and close your eyes there. If you’re an extrovert, you can do it anywhere you want. It’s fine.

Basic position: sit up straight, connect thumb and index finger, look at 1 meter to the ground in front of you, abdominal breathing naturally until you feel a natural urge to close your eyes, then start the meditation.

If you’re too lazy to sit down, start where you are. You can start meditating while laying down. It’s fine.

If you’re very new to meditation, you can start with mindfulness meditation, become aware of your body.

Without guided meditation, you can meditate on your own for your own need, feel your breath in your body and welcome any thoughts that arise, just allow them to be there and allow them to go away as well.

As you get used to meditating, you can start chakra meditation, become aware of energy centers in your body.

You can chant ‘Ommm’ while focusing on each chakra from Root to Crown chakra at least 3x Om per chakra. If you’re too shy or you have many blocks in your mind about chanting ‘Om’, you can use a singing bowl instead, like the rain shaman at Mandalika MotoGP.

Pro tip: try one of the most popular energy center meditations called Blessings of The Energy Centers (BOTEC) meditation by Dr. Joe Dispenza (this is a 45 minutes one).

Add intensity to your meditation by lighting a candle and playing soothing music (tips: I search ‘Full Moon’ playlist on Spotify).

At this point, you will likely feel emotional and you want to cry. Just let yourself cry.

Pro tip: have a ceremony dose of hot cacao before your meditation to help you release.

If you’re a rebel, like me, you will start taking notes during your meditation, because damn the best ideas come during my meditation, I’m not going to let them disappear!

Pro tip: ask questions during your meditation and wait patiently for the answer.

When you’re used to long meditation and start getting addicted to it, you can experiment with walking meditation. Listen to one of the guided meditations on YouTube and walk with open eyes. You can also walk without guided meditation and be aware of your surroundings: the grass, the trees, the clouds, the sound of the birds, etc.

How to know if your meditation is working?

There’s a shift. There’s a calm silence and surrender to the present moment. I can’t explain it. But you can feel it. You’re not worried anymore. You breathe longer. Your lips arch a natural friendly face. You’re at peace.

Try it for at least three days and let me know how you feel.
